Dan Hudock
Dan graduated from Grove City College in 1986 with a metallurgical engineering degree. He wanted to be an engineer because "they make a lot of money." And he wanted to excel in metallurgy, because "it sounded very intelligent."
After graduating from college, he started in sales for an international company. He was lazy and procrastinated a lot. He was paid a salary, given a company car and expense account, and given company goals. There was no need to succeed. There was no desire to become great at selling. Sound familiar?
Then in 1989, he and a friend started a promotional product company. They were lazy and procrastinated a lot. But they had fun, playing a lot of tennis and golf and a really cool hockey game on their Tandy 1000TX computer from Radio Shack. By 1991, they split up mainly because they had no money.
In 1991 Dan started his own promotional product company called Blue Rhino Promotions. He decided that the best way to become successful was to educate himself. So he took various sales training from Dale Carnegie to SPIN Selling. Adding to this, his bubbly personality and incredible good looks, he found himself at the top of his career - NOT!
By 1998 he was only making $32,000. Dan realized that in the promotional product's industry, most of the "players" were over the age of 100, smelled, and dressed in polyester. And yet, most of them were making more money than him.
In August of 1998, he became a client of Sandler. Even though he had over 12 years of selling experience, and many of the things he was learning was common sense, something inside of him clicked. Two years later he had quadrupled his income. What was the reason?
It boils down to an attitude change - the main thing Sandler training does. Who cares if you have great goals or great selling technique? Unless your attitude is rock solid, you will always struggle in your business.
Dan's attitude changed so much that in June 2003, he bought a Sandler franchise. Now he is able to help others achieve the success they desire. He and his wife Marian, and their children Luke, Benjamin, Josiah, and Sarah reside in the Ingram area of Pittsburgh.
